- SGA-Net BRE League 301 Package 01-13-94
- ==========================================================================
- Documentation written by Edward Stangler
-
-
- This package contains information on joining SGA-Net BRE League 301.
- Also included are files to help you set up for Inter-Planetary (IP)
- operation.
-
-
-
- 1.0 Joining our league
-
- A simple process:
-
- (1) Install the latest version of Barren Realms Elite (BRE).
- As of this writing, the most recent version is 0.955.
-
- (2) Fill out the short application (SGABRE.APP) enclosed in
- this package, and send it to Edward Stangler (30:30/0).
-
- (3) You should receive a reply in 5-10 business days.
-
-
-
- 2.0 What to do when you've been accepted
-
-
- NOTE: THE REST OF THIS DOCUMENT ASSUMES YOU HAVE VERSION 0.955
- OR HIGHER. IF NOT, YOU WILL GET UNPREDICTABLE RESULTS
- FROM THE DESCRIBED INSTALLATION.
-
-
- (1) You will receive a copy of the latest BRNODES.DAT
- File-Attached to the reply netmail.
-
- (2) Copy this new BRNODES.DAT into your BRE directory.
-
- (3) Copy the ROUTE.CFG from this package into your
- BRE directory. Refer to the "3.0 Routing" section of
- this document for details on how our routing works.
-
- (4) Run:
-
- BRE IPSETUP
-
- (a) Be sure to enter your ENTIRE node number address when
- asked. It should appear exactly like your node number
- address in the BRNODES.DAT file.
-
- (b) This step creates BBS.CFG.
-
-
- (5) Configure your system to run the BRE Inter-Planetary
- maintenance. This can be done in two ways:
-
- (a) Edit your BRE batch file to run it with Inter-Planetary
- commandline parameters. Refer to BREIP.BAT in this
- package.
-
- and/or
-
- (b) Run BRE in Inter-Planetary maintenance mode as a
- nightly event. Refer to BRENIGHT.BAT in this package.
-
-
-
- 3.0 Routing
-
- Our league uses internal BRE routing. The ROUTE command
- in your ROUTE.CFG depends on several things.
-
- 3.1 If your hub IS in League 301
-
- Your ROUTE command should tell BRE to send its packets to
- your hub. You will also pick up packets from your hub.
-
- The syntax would be:
-
- ROUTE * x
-
- Where 'x' is the POSITION number of your hub in the
- BRNODES.DAT. This number is NOT a node address, but rather
- the number which appears just above the BBS name in
- BRNODES.DAT.
-
- Example: My hub is #1 as listed in the BRNODES.DAT.
- This is the ROUTE command in my ROUTE.CFG:
-
- ROUTE * 1
-
-
- 3.2 If your hub is NOT in League 301
-
- Convince your hub to join, and refer to the section above
- for information on how to set up routing. :)
-
-
- 3.3 If YOU are a hub
-
- Follow the previous instructions to route through YOUR hub.
- Also, if you have any nodes in the BRE league, place
- additional ROUTE commands in the form:
-
- ROUTE x x
-
- Where 'x' is the POSITION number of the node in the
- BRNODES.DAT.
-
- You need an entry like this for every node which
- will be routing BRE packets through your BBS. These
- ROUTE commands will override the 'ROUTE * x' command
- for ONLY your nodes.
-
- Example: Say I have node #50 under my command. He just
- joined the BRE league and will be routing his
- packets through my BBS. -My- hub is node #1.
- These are the ROUTE commands in my ROUTE.CFG:
-
- ROUTE * 1
- ROUTE 50 50
-
-
- 4.0 Rules
-
- There are only a few, simple rules in our league.
- Their full explanations, however, are obviously quite long.
-
- (1) You MUST reset when the league resets. Intentionally
- preventing such a reset will get you kicked out of the league.
-
- We vote on when to reset. If you would like to participate,
- ask your hub to begin receiving the SGA_BRE message echo;
- usually this can be done by sending an AREAFIX netmail.
-
- (2) Real name checking is STRONGLY suggested. This is the
- "CheckDupesAlternative" and related commands in the
- RESOURCE.DAT file. Refer to RESOURCE.DOC (found in the
- SAMPLES directory of your BRE) for information on setting
- this up. The explanation is really, really beyond the
- scope of this document.
-
- Not turning on real names checking may bring in several
- netmail from fellow BRE league members asking why a
- particular user is playing on two different boards.
- Trust me, the fellow members will not be in a good mood.
-
- (3) You absolutely MUST poll for your packets AT LEAST every
- other day. Not doing so can cause annoying delays in routing,
- incorrect scores, and more of those fellow member netmail.
-
-
-
- I hope you found this document easy to understand and useful.
- We look forward to your entrance into our exciting BRE league.
-
- Good luck, for you shall need it! [grin]
